    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify as a startup under the Startup India program, your company must meet the following criteria:
    1. Period of Existence : Your company should be less than 10 years old.
    2. Type of Entity : The recognition is available for Private Limited Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs), or Registered Partnership Firms.
    3. Annual Turnover : Your firm should have an annual turnover of less than Rs. 100 crore since its inception.
    4. Original Entity : Your startup should not have been formed by splitting or reconstituting an existing business.
    5. Innovative & Scalable Entity : Your startup should work towards developing or improving a product, process, or service. It should have a scalable business model with the potential to create wealth and employment.

    Benefits of DPIIT Recognition

    Getting recognition from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Startup India scheme provides several benefits:
    1. Self-Certification : Recognized startups can self-certify compliance with Environmental Laws and Labor Laws.
    2. Start-Up Patent Application : DPIIT-recognized startups receive a 20% discount on fees for patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs. They also have fast-tracking of patent applications.
    3. Easier Public Procurement Norms : Recognized startups can list their products on the Government e-Marketplace and are exempted from submitting Earnest Money Deposit. They also benefit from exemptions in prior experience/turnover requirements in Central Government ministries and departments.
    4. Easy Winding Up of Company : Startups can wind up the company within 90 days of applying for insolvency under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
    5. Funds of Funds : Eligibility for funds of up to Rs. 10,000 crore from Alternative Investment Funds is available for recognized startups.
    6. Credit Guarantee Fund : Startups can access a credit guarantee fund of Rs. 2,000 crore through the National Credit Guarantee Trust Company or SIDBI over four years.
    7. Tax Exemptions : Recognized startups can apply for tax exemptions under section 80 IAC of the Income Tax Act. They are also eligible for Angel Tax Exemption and are exempt from income tax for three consecutive fiscal years out of the first ten years since formation.
